With Lamar Odom recently being in the news for being on that dope we decided to bring back “Bad Bag of Dope”. Not only has he fell of like a bad bag of dope, but he’s on one too. In this edition of Bad Bag of Dope we decided to do the random draw starting with…
BET – The Game – I know a lot of people were happy to see The Game back on TV. Shockingly enough BET brought it back, but of course BET had to ruin what was considered to be a pretty thing. Rather than bringing back the original writers, concept, etc. of the show BET decided to turn it into some kind of drama. Now with BET getting rid of both leading characters we will see how long this show will stay afloat.
Jigg Music – What use to be Baton Rouge’s calling card is now dead. Baton Rouge at one point was known for making club music that could kept a party going from 8-9 o clock at night until 3-4 in the morning. Those days are pretty much over with. While many locals bashed Jig music it had it’s own lane and in the process of killing their own product many others stole the sound and stole the concept and saw many other artists and regions cash out on what many folks in Baton Rouge were ashamed of. Just like Atlanta had their variety of artists Baton Rouge could of had it’s lyricists, conscious rappers, and jig artists.I would of definitely rather seen Da Jiggalaters, Sam I Am, & N.I.P. cash out than Trinidad James and Cash Out.
Oakland Raiders – With the NFL season returning, we had to put on here one of the most prominent franchises in sports on here. 20 years ago the Raiders were looked at as one of the most popular franchises in sports with one of the most dedicated fanbases around. I don’t know if you guys have realized but the Raiders haven’t been back to the playoffs since 2002. The most wins they’ve had since then is 8.
Black Movies – You can say what you want but Tyler Perry & Oprah have messed up the game. If it’s not about some slave mess, church, cheating on your spouse, being subordinate to the white man, or whatever foolishness it seems like it won’t make it to the silver screen and if it does it doesn’t seem like it does well like it use to. Throughout the 80s & 90s there were a variety of movies that featured blacks that didn’t seem to follow the same old stereotypes. We had movies like Coming to America, Friday, Juice, House Party, New Jack City, Do The Right Thing, Boomerang, etc. Now a days it seems like it’s only about big black dudes wearing drag that seems to get any type of reception to the masses.
Real RnB – We here at ThaAntidote try our best to support real RnB with artists like J Mike, David Vines, etc, coming up but on a national scale there aren’t really that many new great RnB artists. While the TGT album was refreshing to hear, it’s coming from three RnB guys who’s been in the game since the 90s. There aren’t any new hot RnB acts out. When’s the last time we have seen a new RnB group do numbers? It’s partially our faults for not supporting real RnB when it was out, but now it’s needed and hopefully it can shake back.
