The build-up for one of 2017’s most anticipated fights began in 2016. November 12, to be exact. On that night, in Philadelphia, Danny “Swift” Garcia defeated Samuel Vargas in a #PBConSpike main event. With fellow 147-pound champion Keith Thurman commentating on the fight ringside, he was brought into the ring to formally announce a unification bout after Garcia’s stoppage victory. And from there, natural fireworks were set off between the two. Now, four months later and just days before their massive welterweight clash, Garcia and Thurman look back on that classic confrontation.
We sat down with former welterweight champion and boxing commentator Paulie Malignaggi to get his expert analysis of the upcoming 147-pound throwdown between Keith “One Time” Thurman and “Showtime” Shawn Porter. Paulie also explains what this fight means for each fighter in the ongoing “fight to the top” of the welterweight division.
