As the calendar turns from September to October, we are counting down the top moments in the ring from the month that was in PBC action. This month’s top moments include a world title being defended in epic fashion, a world title being claimed in a Fight of the Year-caliber bout and, as always, some big knockouts.
In this Episode, Devin recaps and explains a lot of key points and questions that people have for him about his boxing career, childhood and influences Floyd Mayweather and Mauricio Sulaiman among others…
Daniel Jacobs defeated Sergio Mora via seventh round TKO at the Santander Bank Arena in Reading, PA.
Both fighters met in a rematch from their August 2015 bout that ended in an early victory for Jacobs despite both fighters getting knocked down.
The rematch ended in a more dramatic fashion as Daniel Jacobs knocked Sergio Mora down five times and the fight was ultimately stopped by both the referee and Sergio Mora’s corner in the 7th Round.
Robert Guerrero was looking to bounce back from a narrow miss at the WBC welterweight world title, while David Peralta was looking to capitalize on the opportunity of a lifetime.
The two clashed in a PBC on Spike main event bout in Anaheim, Calif., and provided 12 rounds of non-stop action.
Guerrero looked sharp and controlled the action in the fight’s opening rounds, moving in and out successfully and quickly finding his range against the taller Peralta.
In the middle of the fight, though, Guerrero began to slow, and Peralta capitalized, repeatedly scoring both upstairs and to the body. Peralta picked up several rounds on the scorecards in the fight’s second half, and his most significant moment came in the 9th round, when a clean shot sent Guerrero back into the corner, barely staying up on his feat with the aid of the ring support.
That just gave Peralta even more confidence to close the show with ferocity, and he finished it off with a dominant 12th round showing. In the end, he took advantage of the opportunity in his first fight in America, leaving with a stunning Split Decision victory (115-113, 113-115, 116-112).
Highlights from Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton’s possible Fight of the Year candidate as Frampton became the new WBA Featherweight World Champion in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. Plus, undefeated former two-division world champion Mikey Garcia returned to the ring after a two-and-a-half year absence, knocking out former titlist Elio Rojas via fifth round TKO.
Adonis Stevenson defends his WBC title against Thomas Williams Jr. July 16, 2016 on PBC on Spike.
Stevenson wastes no time getting into action and scores a knockdown in round 1. Williams comes back in round 2 and lands punches but Stevenson stands tall. In round 3 Williams and Stevenson exchange without hesitation.
Stevenson delivers a vicious left hand that knocks out Williams at 2 minutes and 54 seconds of round 4. Stevenson improves his record to 28-1 (23 KO’s).
Light heavyweights Eleider Alvarez and Robert Berridge face off July 29, 2016 on PBC on Spike.
Berridge flew from New Zealand to Quebec City last minute to take on Alvarez. Through the first two rounds Alvarez and Berridge keep their distance and feel each other out. Alvarez is unable to capitalize on his jab that he claims is his strong-suit.
Rounds three through six Alvarez and Berridge fail to land any solid punches. Alvarez attempts to work around Berridge’s awkwardness as a southpaw. In the tenth and final round Alvarez attempts to finish off Berridge but the fight goes to the score cards.
After 10 rounds Alvarez defeats Berridge by UD and remains undefeated improving his record to 20-0 (10 KO’s).
